Goodbye V10: The Lamborghini Temerario is the twin-turbo V8 supercar of tomorrow

Lambo's Huracán replacement has ditched the iconic V10 in favour of a plug-in hybrid setup, but it only makes the performance figures all the more enticing.

Goodbye V10: The Lamborghini Temerario is the twin-turbo V8 supercar of tomorrow

THEY SAY: "Every new Lamborghini must surpass its forerunners in performance terms, while at the same time being more sustainable from an emissions standpoint," said Lamborghini chairman and CEOStephan Winkelmann, chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, at the model's Monterey Car Week launch.

"With the Temerario, we have completed a key chapter in [our] electrification strategy [and we have] become the first luxury automotive brand to offer a completely hybridised range."

WE SAY: On the surface, it looks as though Lamborghini has gone all sensible. The masters of flamboyance might have given the Temerario a less ostentatious look – at least, for a mid-engine supercar – along with a Greenpeace-approved plug-in hybrid drivetrain, but the numbers suggest it's anything but.

With two turbos strapped to a flat-plane crank V8, a hint of electric assistance to help it deliver a dizzying 920 metric horsepower, and an eye-watering price tag to boot, it might lose the glorious V10 soundtrack but the Temerario looks like a winner on all other counts. Lambo's new supercar might have matured, but it's put some muscle on in the process.
